Hello everyone, my task for this week is to fully analyse three music videos so hear is my first one.
'Who could it be now?' is a rock song published in 1981 by the band Men at work and the director is Tony Stevens. The style of the video is quite comedic as the band members dress up in some quite funny costumes, for example; a suit with no trousers, an alien, and also JUST a blazer.Music Video Conventions:
-The is a relationship between the lyrics and the video
-The artist has his own Iconograhpy (A suit with no trousers)
-There are a lot of close ups of all the members of the band
-There is a use of voyeurism (looking through the peephole of the door)
-There is and alien in the video that could be an intertextual reference.
The genre of this song is rock so it is conventional to have the actual band playing in the video for the end of the video. Also there is a saxophone in the band which is quite rare today in modern rock bands but they where quite popular in rock bands of the 80s.
The mode of address and iconography is of the band is quite silly and comedic as i said before, its meant to show the anxiety of the singer as he doesn't want to be bothered by anyone late at night. The fact that he is wearing a a formal suit with no trousers could mean how he is not confident and quite anxious about life and this links quite well with the lyrics.
The main locations in the video are the living room, the corridor to the front door and outside the door. There is also the dining room and the room where the band plays at the end but these are less prevalent.
Here is a Long shot from the start When the lead singer is telling the person at the door to go away.
Here is an example of voyeurism as the camera is looking through the peephole of the door.
Here is an example of a close up and this is in the video because record companies are in demand of course closeups.
Here is a long shot of the entire band at the end of the song.
