Sax | Fleur East | 2015

Sax is a song written and performed by Fleur East, a runner up for the 11th X Factor.  It is a great song that was inspired by Uptown Funk but more 'Brassed up,' even though the saxophone is a woodwind instrument, also the song is ironic because there are no saxophones playing in this song!  Anyhoo, the director of the song was Colin Tilly and the style of this music video is quite abstract.  The conventions of this music video are:
-In this video there is no relationship between the lyrics and the video
-There is a relationship between the lyrics and the music with the different scenes and colours.
-It is pop and therefore has a lot of dancing in it
-There are a lot of close ups in this video.
-Fleur’s iconography is that she is fun and dances a lot.
-There is no use of voyeurism in this video.
-There is no intertextual references but the song was inspired a lot by Uptown Funk.

As I said before Fleur East’s iconography is her having fun and dancing a lot.  She wears a lot of modern clothes and has an Afro as a haircut.  There aren’t really any locations due to the green screen.  There are special effects like a green screen and Fleur is doubled.

Here is a closeup of Fleur East.

Here is a long shot of Fleur East.

Here is an extreme long shot, these are quite rare in music videos.

Here is a long shot of the dancers and also shows the special effects of them dancing.
